Our social agenda therefore focuses on growers, farm workers, employees, families and communities, to ensure that the economic benefits of tobacco production are complemented by improved working conditions, stronger farming communities and greater respect for human rights.

Shasha Tobacco’s social priorities include:

Grower livelihoods – supporting growers through agronomic knowledge, technical extension and responsible engagement to improve productivity, quality and farm profitability.

Labour practices – promoting strict adherence to Agricultural Labour Practices, with particular emphasis on child labour prevention, workers’ rights, and workplace health and safety. Shasha Tobacco maintains a zero-tolerance approach to child labour and continues to strengthen awareness, identification, reporting and remediation mechanisms within farming communities. Safe working environments, appropriate personal protective equipment and responsible chemical handling are also key priorities.

Farmer training and extension – equipping growers with knowledge in sustainable production, environmental protection, safe chemical use, labour practices and effective farm management.

Community development – supporting initiatives that contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of communities in tobacco-growing areas, while promoting fair treatment, respect and equal opportunity for employees, growers, workers and other stakeholders. Shasha Tobacco also values constructive relationships with farmers, workers, communities, regulators, industry bodies and development partners.
